Starburst Sayings and Retro Fresh for PPA185

I needed a few thank you cards after Christmas and sat down a couple of days ago to make some.  This one is the result of playing along with a challenge.  This is for PPA185, the Pals Paper Arts Challenge.  I started by selecting a DSP from the new Occasions Catalog and chose my colors from the paper.  The Starburst Sayings Stamp Set and the Starburst Framelits can be ordered as a bundle to save 15%.  

 

This thank you card was for a Starbucks gift card that I received so I added the cup from Perfect Blend and paper pieced the reverse side of the DSP that I used for the cup band.

Chevron Punch Lattice

Did you like the card yesterday using the Chevron Punch to create the braided look?  I also love how this punch can make a lattice trim.  It looks just like a trellis with the flowers attached.

I didn't add a sentiment because I didn't want to detract from the lattice and the flowers.  This way I can add a sentiment on the inside that is appropriate for the occasion I decide to use this for.

This card includes a stamp set and punch from the new Occasions Catalog that begins on January 3.  You can bundle the two together to save 15%.  See page 33 of the new catalog for details.

Chevron Punch Braided Embellishment

Love this way of using the Chevron Punch to create a fun embellishment for a card. 

 

Supplies (all Stampin' Up!)

Stamp Set:  The Open Sea

Card Stock:  Midnight Muse, Very Vanilla

Ink:  Midnight Muse

Tools and Accessories:  Argyle Embossing Folder, Chevron Punch, 2-1/2" Circle Punch, Circle Collection Framelits, Stampin' Dimensionals

 

To create the braided embellishment, cut a piece of card stock 1-1/4" x 5-1/2" from both Midnight Muse and Very Vanilla.  Punch each with the Chevron Punch.  You will need 6 openings in the Midnight Muse piece and 7 openings in the Very Vanilla piece.

 

Cut the top and bottom of the Midnight Muse piece to create the arrow shape.

Put the two pieces together by placing the arrows for each color in the opposite direction and weave together.

Pull tight and cut away the excess from the Very Vanilla piece at the top and bottom.

Don't forget to save the punched pieces from the Midnight Muse card stock.  You can use them to embellish the inside of your card.

After Christmas Shopping...Free Shipping

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  We won't get together with our family until late January so we spent Christmas Eve day at Disney World followed by the candlelight service at First Baptist of Orlando.  Silent Night sung by 5,000 people holding candles.  What a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of our Savior.  Christmas Day was very low-key.  I made a big breakfast.  Then we hung out and watched movies on TV.  All the excitement will come later when we spend time with the grandkids!

Hexagon Punch Star Fold

The focal point of this card was made using the Hexagon Punch.  What a great way to show off the gorgeous designs of the Eastern Elegance DSP.

Tools:  Hexagon Punch, Bone Folder, Word Window Punch

The hexagon star is really easy to create.  Just punch out 6 of the hexagons from DSP.

Fold from corner to corner as shown below.

 

Fold again right next to last fold to form a kite shape.

 

 Repeat for remaining punches so you have 6 folded pieces. 

 

 

Adhere to card front matching up folded edges to form the star.

Fancy Flap Card

This is one of the cards that we made at my December stamp classes.  I found the idea for this card from demo Darlene McCallum.  Click HERE to see her card that inspired me.  She also gives you a link to a video on how to make the card. 

You can make this card to open from either the left or right side. 

I pulled out the Venetian Romance DSP for this card and then chose the Pistachio Pudding card stock to coordinate.
